Hattie is funny. If you have read any of my articles for very long you know that I long for humor on soaps. I think that every day of doom and gloom is just too much. Humor breaks up the drama and if done right can be an integral part of any soap. Days did it very well with Caliope and Eugene and also Vivian and Ivan. But since Vivian left humor has been one thing you didn't see much of on Days, except the biting kind exhibited artfully by Nicole. Hattie brings back humor at its best. She makes you laugh out loud. And I have been laughing a lot lately!
Hattie is irreverent. The character of Hattie is attacking one of daytime tv's icons, a beloved character, someone considered to be above the rest....Marlena. And it's even better that the actress is her real life sister. It makes it all the funnier, all the more irreverent. Anytime a daytime show can actually poke a little fun at itself is a good time for fans. Now admit it, haven't you said some of the same things Hattie has said about Marlena sitting on your sofa? Isn't it hilarious to see a character on the show saying the same things?!
Hattie is a little bit psycho. Okay so she isn't perfect :-) I just hope the show doesn't make her totally unredeemable. If they do then Hattie isn't long for Days and humor goes with her. If they can make her just a little crazy but able to be reformed then Hattie could turn into a long term character. And that's what I am hoping for!
I look forward to her scenes on every show. For the first time in months I am wanting not to miss Days. That says a lot for a long time fan like myself. Hattie is must see tv!
