Passions Or Days, You Decide. If you have read any of my articles up to this point you know I am not a big fan of outrageous storylines and plots. So when I heard about the upcoming haunted civil war battlefield plot I was less than happy. Couple that with the RUMOR that NBC wants James Reilly of Passions to write for Days again and you have quite a story. IF James Reilly is going to write this story it might well be something worth watching. He is, even though I dislike the storylines, the master of the supernatural soap writing. IF he is not going to write it I may as well get some batteries for my vcr remote to insure my fast forward button is working very well. Supernatural soap stories are hard enough to write and make watchable by people who know what they are doing but to be written by those who have no clue is just plain ridiculous. I am willing to give yet another outrageous plot the benefit of the doubt but I am not willing to sit through weeks of badly written story. I don't think a lot of other Days fans are either. If this story has some bearing on current characters it may prove to be more interesting but if the story is just some peripheral to the Mimi's new home story then it's going to seem contrived and a plot that the show hopes will bring ratings. Have they watched Passions lately? Sure it is a new soap but it does not bring watchers in droves because of the supernatural storylines and this kind of story won't bring viewers in droves to Days either. I hear from Days fans every day who are tired of the outrageous stories and plots. The fans yearn for real stories, real romance, real soap opera. Is it that the writer's have forgotten how to write good soap opera? I think that the almighty ratings line has taken the place of good writing. These days it is all about who can bring in the most viewers in the prime demographics and the way they bring them in doesn't matter. Witness all the reality based prime time shows, the more shocking, disgusting and downright bad they are the more viewers they get. It's a sad commentary indeed. I will give the haunted storyline a chance but only a slim one as I have grown very weary of over the top storylines. From what I have read about it so far it does not sound promising. The last thing Days needs is to drive even more viewers away. I hope I am wrong, I hope the storyline is fabulous and draws people in every day, but I have my doubts. Only time will tell.
