Thoughts in January About Daylilies

This is the quote on the front of their catalogue and it is one of my favorite scriptures, especially when I am looking in my closet for something to wear. I think God is in charge of these flowers. We just dab pollen. You can guess what you might get, but no one really knows for sure. I think that is why hybridizers continue. It is such a delight to see the first bloom of a beautiful flower. Yes, I know that not all are beautiful, but even those that don't measure up appear beautiful to some.

I talked to Melissa to ask her about their daylily garden. She says that they have been growing daylilies between 10 to 12 years. The reason she targeted daylilies is that they are perennials and she was tired of growing annuals every year. They had gone to a mall and saw their first daylily show. It was an awakening moment. They hadn't realized that the daylily came in so many colors. They were hooked.

It seems that Lynn was the one who started to hybridize. I noted that he keeps careful track of the parentage in the catalogue for their introductions. Melissa has also developed an interest in hybridizing. There are pictures of their new introductions on the site.

It was interesting to me when she told me how the names of the new plants formed a biblical theme. They didn't plan it that way, but think about it. OUT OF DARKNESS is followed by CLEAN HEART, then ABUNDANT JOY. What a way to think! Loved this site.

You may phone, email or go to the http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr site to order these plants. The PAYPAL site is a place where you can order from small business with a credit card. You must call her or email her first with your order before making the payment with PAYPAL. Check it out.

I also got a Roycroft catalogue. He has really expensive beautiful plants, but also some at reasonable prices. Check out his web site at http://www.roycroftdaylilies.com.
