The official DMB Web site has announced that as part of a week-long event set to begin October 14th in Seattle (Dave's new "adopted" hometown!), Dave will perform a solo acoustic set at The Paramount Theatre to benefit the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. Groundwork 2001 is the first North American TeleFood event. It is part of The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations ongoing global campaign against world hunger.
Others opening night acts include the Blind Boys of Alabama, Emmylou Harris, and Daniel Lanois. Tickets go on sale for the event August 25th. ATO Records' Chris Whitley will perform on October 17th. Other artists appearing include Anne and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Afro Celt Sound System October 18th and Joe Henry the 19th. Groundwork 2001, a celebration of community and concerts, will take place in Seattle, Washington from October 14th through the 22nd. The event coincides with the worldwide observation of World Food Day on October 16th. By providing people with seeds, livestock, tools, irrigation systems and other farming implements, Groundwork 2001 aims to empower the poor to sustainably grow and produce their own food. The event's goal is to raise awareness about solutions to world hunger and funds to help small farmers in developing countries in their struggle to overcome poverty.
