Something's Phishy... and Other NewsSomething’s Phishy "Rolling Stone" reported Tuesday that Dave Matthews (Yes, just Dave!) is among the artists making an appearance on the upcoming Phish tribute album "Sharin’ the Groove: Celebrating the Music of Phish." The album is being compiled, produced and distributed by the Mockingbird Foundation. The non-profit group is comprised of fans who volunteer their time and effort in Phish-related projects solely for the benefit of charity (...and to spread the joy of Phish!). The foundation's first project was the book "The Phish Companion."
While which song Dave performs has yet to be officially announced, fans at the this past Saturday’s concert at Alltel Pavilion in Raleigh were treated to a never-before-heard rendition of "Waste," a Phish song that just happens to appear on the play list offered at the foundation’s Web page about the album. Whether this is the song Dave performs on the album -- or if it’s his only contribution -- remains to be seen. Speaking of the album’s play list, it’s interesting to note that the double disc album is structured much like a live Phish show, complete with fade-into’s, reprises and the standard two song encore. Other performers on the album include Jimmy Buffett, Rebecca’s Statue, Arlo Guthrie, Little Feat and Hot Tuna. While the "Rolling Stone" article mentions early June as a projected release date, the foundation’s Web site says "Groove" may be available as soon as May 22nd. Word has it the disc will sell for a very reasonable $10. The foundation will then distribute funds towards worthy non-profit agencies and charitable organizations that are dedicated to music education for children. I Want My… "Space Between"! Earlier this week, the DMB Mailing List Web Site reported that the video for DMB’s newest single, "The Space Between," will premiere Monday on MTV2 at 10 p.m. ET. A visit to the DMBML will provide you with a link to a very brief snippet of the video from MTV2 online.
"Space" is currently beginning to get airplay on radio stations on the ‘Net and the "real world." Be sure your favorite radio station has added the song to its play list. Then bug them to play it. Often. Must See TV According to RockOnTV, DMB will appear on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on May 21st. Tune in to your local NBC affiliate at 11:35 p.m. EST. DMB will most likely perform "Space Between,” since it's customary for performers to promote current singles on the show.
