Family Honors Patriarch with Donation
Dave Matthews and his family have donated a half a million dollars to the University of Virginia in memory of Dave's father, John W. Matthews. John was employed as a postdoctoral researcher at the institution's engineering prior to his death in 1977. In an official release posted to the school's Web site last week, UVA stated: "The gift will support the construction of a 1,000-square-foot laboratory in the planned materials science building, a research and teaching facility to be constructed in 2002. Before he began his position with UVA in 1964, John Matthews was employed as a research scientist with the IBM Corporation. According to the UVA news release, "Matthews had already distinguished himself by conducting promising research in epitaxy, an area that underlies much of modern computer technology," which led to Matthews' later work at the university. The UVA news release also stated: "Matthews' many contributions are still fundamental to computer chip manufacture." New Tour Dates In case you didn't notice the official announcement last Wednesday, this is a reminder that the band has added a number of new show dates to the spring and summer tour schedule. The ticketing phase has begun for these shows and will end this coming Monday, March 26. The new shows include:
Be sure to check the band's complete tour schedule at the official Web site or the Warehouse Web site for fan association members (links provided below) to see all of the tour dates, find out about the ticket lottery or to check the status of tickets you have already reserved. Everyday Slips to No. 2 DMB's latest studio release, Everyday, has fallen to number two on the Top 100 chart after a two-week stay at number one, according to Billboard.com. Everyday dethroned Shaggy's Hotshot from the top spot the week of its release and then remained at number one for a second week. This week's sales totals are very close, indeed, according to SoundScane: while DMB's album sold nearly 200,000 units; Shaggy's CD sold about 9,000 more copies than Everyday -- a close call, but still a victory for Shaggy. Will DMB return to the top spot? Seeing as The Space Between is scheduled to be released as a single in the near future, sales will probably rise again once it hits the airwaves. All we can do is wait and see... and tell everyone we know to buy the album! ;-) Go To Page: 1 2
