DMB's "Everyday" Released!!Although I only got the CD in time to give it one listen through before posting this article, let me just say... I am blown away!! As I am sure you are, too! "What would you say" about Everyday? ;-) How about e-mailing me your comments at littlebabee@suite101.com?! You could contribute to an upcoming article! In the meantime, here is the first part of my review... First and foremost, before I say anything about the songs on the album, I must tell you to be prepared not only for a very different style from the band, but also for a different length of song and album. Every song on the album is around four minutes long... the album isn't even an hour long! Yes, when the final song ended, I looked squarely at my stereo and asked, "Is that the end?!" I think more than the adjustment to the band's new sound, we are all going to have a tough time to the non-jam-friendly, but oh-so-radio friendly three minute to four-and-a-half minute ditties Glen Ballard has "streamlines" the band's songs down to... That said, let's talk about the songs! "I Did It" opens the CD. We've all heard it by now and the video on amplifies the song's message. The opening riffs are upbeat and jazzy and the chorus is something we could all sing along to the first time we heard it. The song doesn't lose its charm the more you hear it, which is definitely a plus! Remember, this is the song I said you have to listen to two times in a row each time to listen to it, so your ears can adjust to a four minute DMB song. ;-) Next is the sexy "When the World Ends," which is most definitely one of my favorite songs on the album. A mid-tempo and jazzy ballad, Dave tells his lover not to worry about a thing, 'cause even if the world was ending around them "...we'll be burning one... we'll be sweet making love..." While not as straight-forward carpe diem as "Lie in Our Graves," it is similar to a few other songs from "Crash" -- the suggestiveness is reminiscent of "Crash Into Me" and the seductiveness to "Say Goodbye." The only thing I dislike about this song is the abrupt ending. If you're anything like me, you thought you had a faulty CD the first time you heard it. Upon a quick rewind and another listen, you realize it's for effect. D'oh!
