The Latest DMB News: December 1, 2000

Santa Brings an Early Treat

DMB has contributed a new recording of "The Christmas Song" to a holiday compilation album called Platinum Christmas. This is an original DMB song from the early days, not to be confused with the often-covered traditional song by the same name. Other artists appearing on the CD include Santana, Britney Spears, *NSync, Dido and Jars of Clay.

Fans are already familiar with the song from concert performances and the band's indie album "Remember Two Things," which was released prior to the band's studio recordings. The preivious recording of "The Christmas Song" was also featured on an early holiday compilation CD, A Very Special Christmas 3.

Pete Mocker of the DMB Mailing List stated the following at the news page of his site:

"The recent version of 'Christmas Song' found on the compilation doesn't stray too far from its roots, but the new track provides a fresh perspective of what fans will hear on the new studio album in February 2001."

Tell us what you think of the song at the message board post linked at the bottom of this article.

Hip Holiday Hemp

Just in time for your holiday shopping, DMB and Bama Rags are offering a line of hemp accesories. Dave Matthews himself is quoted at the storefront as saying:

"Hemp is the answer to many of today's economic and environmental problems. Please support the legalization of its cultivation in the U.S."

At this time, the only hemp products available are bags, but the variety is good: from a field bag to a messenger bag and from a "Baby Bama" to a backpack. Prices range from $22 to $65 depending on which bag you choose. You can shop the Bama Rags Natural Wear store at the link provided at the related resources section below.

Tickets Auctioned for Charity

Bama Works recently auctioned off several pairs of front row tickets to the New York City concerts. At the time this article was written, the auction was still going on, and the bid amount was up to $1,000.

Bama Works was established by DMB to "...carry out the band's committment to charitable works both close to home and worldwide." *

Charities benefiting from Bama Works' efforts include Boys and Girls Clubs of America, The American Diabetes Association, The Sexual Assault Resource Agency, ERICA Inc. and many more non-profit, charitable organizations.
