The Road Less Traveled

Friends and family who are not involved in this process are baffled at the time devoted to such undertakings, oft times for free or very little pay. Rehearsing every night and working at a "real" job all day long can be draining, but any dancer or actor will tell you it's worth it. It is more than a hobby, it is part of us, and something that makes our lives worth living.

Now that I am a parent and a soon-to-be home owner, the pressure to make money has gone into overdrive. I rack my brain to try and figure out some "job" I can find that will make me lots of money so I can attain more material wealth. My older sister teases me that I am not cut out for normal work (she isn't either). What I want to do is choreograph. I don't want to walk down the road most traveled. I wish I could, and sometimes I take a stroll down that path, but I know deep down that I belong on another road.

What I really want is to make a difference, and I believe I can do that through dance. An audience member once told me that she couldn't get one of my dances out of her head for days after she saw the performance. I moved her somehow, and I was so proud. I have learned the hard way (and am sure I will continue to learn) that the way to happiness is by taking risks. The road less traveled is a huge risk. I hope you'll join me for a walk.
