Water -- A Healthy Way to Keep the Fat AwayDancers have a constant struggle to keep a lean and healthy look. Sadly, many unguided dancers go about this pursuit in unhealthy and even dangerous ways such as diuretics, drugs, and starvation. The good news is that there are healthy alternatives to weight loss and one of them is drinking eight glasses of water a day. Water suppresses the appetite naturally and helps the body metabolize stored fat. Studies have shown that a decrease in water intake will cause the storage of fat deposits but an increase in water will actually reduce fat deposits. The reason for this is that the kidneys cannot function optimally without enough water. When the kidneys do not work properly, some of their work is transferred to the liver. One of the liver's primary functions is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy for the body. The liver cannot do its work completely if it is also helping out the kidneys. As a result, less fat is metabolized and more fat remains stored in the body.* Some other great reasons to drink your water: ~ Drinking enough water is the best treatment for fluid retention. If you body is not getting enough water, it perceives this as a threat to survival and retains whatever fluids you are drinking. This can show up as swollen feet, legs, and hands. Diuretics only offer a temporary solution to this problem and they force out nutrients from the body along with water. The best way to deal with water retention is to drink more water. When your body is getting the water it needs, it can flush out the stored water. ~ If you have a constant problem with water retention, too much salt might be to blame. The more sodium you eat, the more water your system will retain to dilute it. Getting rid of excess salt is easy: just drink more water. ~ The overweight person needs more water than the thin one. Since water is the key to fat metabolism, it should follow that the overweight person needs more water. ~ Another benefit of drinking sufficient water is that it helps to maintain proper muscle tone. This is achieved because water gives muscles their natural ability to contract and also prevents dehydration. Water also helps skin to look healthy by plumping up the skin cells that usually sag following weight loss. ~ Water helps rid the body of waste which is especially essential during weight loss when the body needs to flush out the metabolized fat.
