What does the Dalmatian want for Christmas?

I think my Dalmatian really wants a cat for Christmas. Ain't gonna happen! It's bad enough spending countless hours in crowded shopping malls. And I'm only talking here of looking for a parking space! To search out human presents is already time consuming, but add some pampered pooches onto Santa's list and shopping time can double.

Ideas are endless when it comes to choosing a gift to put under the Christmas tree for your spotted friend. Loving owners limited only by their budget. The old stand by that can be spotted in grocery stores, drug stores, and pet stores is the red net stocking that comes with assorted dog treats. A more personal touch is to get a real stocking with the Dalmatian's name on it and fill it with the dog's favorites: small rawhide bones, a package of dog treats, a ball, and a Christmas themed squeaky toy. At this time of year rawhide bones shaped like candy canes can be purchased. Perhaps a little heavy to hang from the Christmas tree, they can be hooked onto the fireplace mantle.

The well-dressed Dalmatian needs a supply of bandanas and hats. Go a little further and outfit the Dal with sunglasses and a cool T-shirt. Trendy is the name of the game. During the winter months many owners also outfit their Dalmatian in raincoats or wooly sweaters to combat the chilly weather.

Basics are necessary for any Dalmatian. A new dog bowl, brightly colored collars and leases are practical choices. But sometimes your faithful companion deserves more. Doggy toys are endless on the shopping aisles of the local pet store. Dalmatians have plenty of energy and enjoy toys that can be tossed such as squeaky plush animals, and Kong on a rope. But the Dalmatian will be just as happy with a tennis ball to chase.

Temptation is there at the Christmas table to share some of the trimmings with the Dalmatian. The Dalmatian should be on a low protein diet so instead of loading up its dinner bowl with a full course turkey dinner, add lots of mashed vegetables and a little turkey to the dog's regular dry food and it will be in heaven. Bottom line is the Dalmatian doesn't recognize Christmas as a special day and its feelings won't be hurt if it doesn't get a big turkey dinner. Dessert is another story! Award Dessert Delights makes a gourmet dessert for dogs called Apple Cranberry Crumble. It smells good enough for humans to eat! It comes in a small tin with a pull-tab lid. It is exclusive to Petsmart, costs about 50 cents, and your Dalmatian will inhale this without even tasting.
