Daffodils the First Week in April 2001

This Week in Daffodils

I went to the Atlanta, Georgia daffodil show back on the weekend of March 17, 2001. I only had a couple of 'Tete-a-Tete' and a couple of 'Reijnwald's Early Sensation'. That all that I still have.

This little row of 'Tete-a-Tete' makes a vallant stand with crocus, blue miniature Iris, and a budding clump of 'Itzim'. These pictures taken on April 4th tell the story, nearly a month later.

Last year at this time I was seriously showing daffodils at the Portland, Oregon's National Daffodil Show. This year, nothing to show.

I had high hopes when I went to Atlanta, Ga and took this picture of Tom Roche's Purple Ribbon Collection, that also won the best in show for the collection of white daffodils. In the back row from left to right is 'Broomhill', 'Alaskan Forest', and 'Lone Star'. The front row is 'Crystal Blanc' and 'Colonial White'. Nice green in those cups Tom.

Fran and I really enjoyed our visit to Atlanta's Daffodil Show. This was the second year in a row that we were invited there to Daffodil Show held in the beautiful Altanta Botanical Gardens. The Gardens are worth the trip alone, and we get to see the daffodils too. We can't wait until next year.

You also get to meet some strange people there, would that be the current President of the American Daffodil Society Peg Newell and her husband with Fran in between. Jadee Jager on the right and John Lipscomb the Show Chairman on the left.

How about this for a strange daffodil. Sorry that the picture is not clear, but this was one of the best 'Canaciculatus' that I've seen. They are really worth it when they bloom.

I hope next week brings better weather and a change at some real daffodils to show.
