Once the daffodils are cut and hardened, they are ready for either the bouquet or for the show bench. Change the water every day, and recut the stems each time you put them in fresh water. The new cut on the stem only needs about a quarter inch to be refreshened.
Why recut the stem? All plants and animals have a healing process, and the cut stem starts healing itself as soon as it is cut and will enventually close off the pores so that it cannot absorb more water. The recut allows more water to be taken in, and lengthens the life of the flower.
