Daffodils and Garden Beds

to bloom - end of April, even after our mild winter had some of my early daffodils blooming in mid March.

At the time I planted it, I simple chose this bed because it would be the least amount of work to prepare and plant. Later, a farmer neighbor pointed out to me that my bed was on the reverse slope when I was talking about the mild winter upsetting my bloom schedule. He said, "That bed is on the reverse slope of that hill. I've lived here all my life, and I can tell you that it's ten degrees colder over on that side of the hill from where we are standing." That sent me back to the books to learn all I could about reverse slopes. The farmer was correct in his assessment.

That led me to digging my early daffodils out of that bed, and to preparing a new early bed. That's also where I was when I begin this article.

Happy gardening.

This article continues for the next two weeks on how to build those beds for early and mid season daffodils.
