Front Lawn Garden #3 With Daffodils
The Circle Driveway The circle driveway part of the garden will be the show place. As you can see from the differences in this picture and the one below is that this garden is still under construction. Both pictures were taken "looking at each other" and covering approximately the same location. Grass was the primary ingredient in the older picture above, where bare topsoil is featured in the newer picture below.
It will be, when completed, a major effort, yet I'm trying not to overwhelm the front garden with the circle. If my plan works, it will give the entire front garden an intimacy in itself that takes in a rough triangular shape formed by the circle, the front patio and the rockgarden forming the three corners separated by a grass lawn. In a previous article called "My Eight Gardens", I described the Front Lawn Garden #3 at the front entrance to our home as follows: The front lawn features a circle at the end of the driveway before the garage, a rock garden to the left sit off in front of the entrance, and a large patio at the front entrance with bench and low shrubs. A formal sidewalk leads from the entrance, north to connect with the garage and the driveway. An informal flag-stone walk connects the entrance patio to the driveway circle, and continues inside the circle to a water feature, and a raised area that helps close or form a boundary on the North side of the garden. From the benches on the front entrance porch, one can sit and take in the entire front garden, and garden eight, the meadow garden, that we will come back to in a later article.
The Making of the Front Garden As I've said before, this front garden is a piece of work under construction. I started with this rock garden last fall, and continued with the re-routing, and re-design of the sidewalks to include a small front patio this spring. The sidewalk re-desgning led to greatly expanding the mulched areas of the foundation planting between the sidewalk and the house "foundation planting" I don't expect to do much more to the foundation planting area.
