Preparing Daffodil Beds for Fall Planting.

words not under the total shade of an evergreen tree. Planting behind other perennials is not considered a shade problem, as daffodils will do their thing before most of the summer perennials get started, and when the perennials get going, their foliage will hide the tangles of daffodils.

If space is a premium when planting amongst the perennials, the soil still needs a good mixture of organic matter and good drainage. A proven methods is to dig out the soil that is being used and mixing it with the organic matter in a tub or a wheel-barrow, and replacing the shoved out area with the mixture. I know that I said you don't have take the soil out to mix, and I don't do it for exact measurements. It's just an easy method for me to put the soil in the wheelbarrow, mix it with organic matter and dump it back into the bed.

Good luck and good gardening.
