1st Annual, Fox Run Daffodil ShowThe bronze fox, to the left, at Fox Run, is the official sponsor of our daffodil show. Bronze fox is also our mascott and lord protector that was so kind as to allow us to use his name as the logo for our house. At the top right is a familiar picture (as I've had it on these pages more then it should have been to show the changing of the seasons), of our main daffodil bed taken from the hill in front of our house. That's where the daffodils for the show come from.
The next picture is the daffodils on the floor of our garage, and represents close to 400 flowers that were picked the 16th, 17th and 18th of April. But we decided not to go to a show, even when Pittsburgh, PA, and Baltimore, MD, daffodil shows were available during the middle of the week, and within our "normal" driving range.
Sorry all, I couldn't resist putting up this picture of a two headed 'Painted Desert' so that all can see. Nice picture, if only the left head had six petals. Our daffodils are just not up to "prime" this year. We just don't have that one daffodil that you can add to each collection that causes the judge's eyes to pop out of their heads that we've had in previous years. There have been times in the past where three or four of our daffodils are up for best in show at the same time. Not this year. The smoothness of our daffodils just isn't there, and I contribute it to planting in beds that didn't have time to settle-in. In addition, we were just too tired, therefore, we created this daffodil show staged and photographed (by me, so don't expect much) here at Fox Run, and at the kind "nod of the head" from the bronze fox that guards us.
Here's this week's article presented as a daffodil show, staged and photographed at our home, "Fox Run." For those that are having daffodil withdrawl pains, we are dedicating this presentation.
The Gold Ribbon Winner for best in show was Quiet Waters, 1W-W shown here: The White Ribbon best vase of three in the show was 'Feock' 3W-YYR. You don't know me, if you expected me to pick something other than a division 3 short cupped. (By the way, I also received the Silver Ribbon for the most blue ribbons in the show (4).
