Flower decorating facts. Daffodils secrete a latex like substance that is damaging to other cut flowers sharing the same water vase. Keep daffodils separated for at least 24 hours before putting with other flowers. Change the water often to keep the daffodil secretion from damaging the other flowers.

Other odd daffodil facts not worthy of mention (LOL):

Bob Spotts of California, and the current President of the American Daffodil Society, won the Quinn Award for the 1996 Washington Daffodil Society Show in Vienna, Virginia, for the best collection of 24 standard daffodils.

That same daffodil show saw a humble beginning. Clay Higgins from Virginia on the East Coast, won his first three blue ribbon's by taking the Novice Award, the Best in Show, and the Best Collection of five in show all with the same collection of five standard daffodils.

Now . . , how did Bob Spots get California grown daffodils to Washington DC. in such good condition that they won the Quinn Award? Hummmm! A future article, maybe. Check these pages in March.
