This article is going to chronicle the events that occur in the day of a cook. From the unexpected phone call from a friend, school secretary, relative, coworker, etc., reminding them that they volunteered to help out with a hot dish for the whatever occasion, to the finished product delivered hot, with loving care to the happy recipients.
8:27 AM: The phone is ringing and our tired cook still half asleep, answers, mumbling something like, "A pleasant good morning, this is the Mc Grilledsalmon residence." Cheery voice on the other end: "Hi, this is Mrs. Kibblesnbits, the school secretary. I'm just calling to remind you that we need the soup delivered to the school cafeteria by 2:30 p.m. today for your son Flounder's fund raising dinner." Mr. Mc Grilledsalmon:"Soup? Fund Raiser? Today?" Mrs. Kibblesnbits:"Yes. Remember you signed up to make Potato Soup for the 8th grade class trip fund raiser. They're going to Bulgaria this year and everyone is quite excited!" Mc Grilledsalmon:"Oh yes," our cook says scratching his head,"I'll have it there promptly at 2:30. Thanks for the reminder Mrs. K. Buh Bye." 8:30 a.m. Mr. Mc Grilledsalmon hurries into the necessary room to wash his face, brush his teeth, and run a comb through his hair. Having a severe case of bed head, he opts for his golf cap instead. He had completely forgotten that the fundraiser was today since he signed up to make soup 3 weeks ago. As he's getting dressed he starts the mental planning- Potatoes, milk, cream, butter, ham, etc... 8:34 a.m. He goes into the pantry checking to see what he'll need to buy at the store. Caught totally off guard, he sees that he has exactly one ingredient in the house to make the soup. Onions... "Wonder if they'd go for Onion Soup," his thought for just a moment, quickly dismissed because he knows that when you volunteer potato soup, you deliver potato soup! 8:53 a.m. Having prepared a shopping list he is off to the market to make this all important purchase. He can't let the 8th grade down. His son, Flounder, has been looking forward to this trip since 7th grade. He reminds himself to look at the world atlas to find out where Bulgaria is exactly. Somewhere in Europe he seems to remember from high school geography. Or was that Bolivia??? 9:37 a.m. Our now focused cook arrives back home and brings the groceries into the kitchen for preparation. Mc Grilledsalmon is not as focused as he thinks, and it becomes obvious as he unloads the grocery bags that he forgot a key ingredient.
