The Great Pizza Survey of 1999

... Puffy, the bag of mini-marshmallows, had been cornered! The toddler was coming right toward him and she looked Hungry!....

...We interrupt this story to bring you a special message from S.P.L.E.(Society of Pizza Lovers Everywhere)
It has come to our attention that there are other pizza lovers in the world who do not share our position regarding the most important part of the pizza. We at S.P.L.E. have always loved the crust and feel that pizza is not pizza without the perfect crust. But other organizations such as C.L.U.M.P.P. (Cheese Lovers United Making Pizza Pie), S.P.L.A.T. (Sauce Preparers Legion to Abolish Toppings), and even T.R.I.P.E. (Tofu Rules! International for Pizza Elegance) disagree with us.

Because of this raging controversy, we surveyed a group of children's writers to settle this issue once and for all.Why children's writers you may ask? Why not? They are smart, in touch with children and adults, and they reply to e-mail requests.

The results of our poll were tabulated and sealed in a copy of "The Cat in a Hat" until now. The official vote breakdown is as follows:

Number 1: The Crust with 20 votes. (Honest, S.P.L.E. would never mislead)
Number 2: Toppings with 14 votes. (No votes for Tofu though)
Number 3: The Sauce with 8 votes.
Author Janna K Mauldin Heiner( Her book, Annie's Garden, is expected to hit the book stores early next year) , stated unequivocally that,"A mediocre crust or plain toppings don't ruin a pizza. But a bad sauce does."

But is this the end to the great pizza debate? Definitely not. S.P.L.E. would like to give the wonderful visitors to Suite101 an opportunity to take part in the voting. Simply go to the welcome page of this author's article and cast your vote now! Be heard! Stand up for pepperoni and mushrooms. Be heard for pineapple and ham. Let people know that you are NOT afraid to eat pizza with grilled chicken and ginger for toppings. Put herbs in the crust, touch it up with garlic butter and Parmesan cheese. Add fresh tomatoes to that sauce. Simmer the flavor of fresh crushed garlic and chopped cilantro into that pesto sauce. Thanks for your support.
Salvatore P. Peppernelli - President and General Manager of S.P.L.E.

and now back to our story, already in progress

... so Jennifer's mom bought her a box of fruit snacks shaped like countries of the world and our little friend Puffy, returned to his spot on the grocer's shelf.
