Choice Cuts: September 2001

Sep 4, 2001 - © Adam McKibbin

what the hell is a nephilim?

Honorable Mention: “Morningstar” brings the album to a vulnerable and bittersweet close. Lest you think they’re going to ride off into an acoustic sunset, the band squeals off a noisy hidden track before signing off.

Artist: Kevin Clark & Tom McDermott

Album: New Orleans Jazz Brunch

The Scoop: Clark plays the cornet while McDermott plays piano. The seasoned duo performs 14 lively tracks that capture the essence of one of America’s most famously unique cities. The compositions—with the exception of the bonus track, which is an original —are all well chosen covers. For ambitious and/or hungry listeners, the liner notes include some famous N’Awlins recipes, from chick-pea salad to fried apples and pecans.

Highlight Tracks: “Up A Lazy River” and “South.”
