breaks from form. On one hand, there's nothing new to behold. On the other, there are no painful excursions into wimpy balladry or experimental noodling. One somewhat unusual facet of The Soviettes is that all four band members take a crack at lead vocals, meaning that sometimes you catch a whiff of Go-Gos and then sometimes catch a whiff of Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein. It's harder to make melodies stick when you don't get the chance to repeat them ad nauseum over four or five or-God forbid-six minutes, so it's a testament to the band's engaging and efficient songwriting that it takes around 90-120 seconds to slip their hooks in.

Highlight Tracks: "Tonight" and "#1 is Number Two"
