Australian farmers call for guest workers

CNMI: More airline cuts
A downturn in the tourism industry in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands has prompted air carrier Continental Micronesia to lay off more than 100 employees on the island of Saipan. Retrenchments will begin in October, but the airline has promised to do all it can to offer job opportunities outside the CNMI. This week, the airline confirmed it will drop Saipan from its Guam to Hong Kong routes from early November, and will suspend its jet service from Guam to the Saipan early next year. Japan Airlines has also announced the suspension of 14 weekly direct flight flights between Tokyo and Saipan, as a result of a decline of the number of tourists visiting the Commonwealth.
