Majuro Fire
A state of emergency was declared in Marshall Islands on Friday
afternoon after a fire broke out at Majuro Hospital. Investigators are
still unclear what caused the fire, which led to the total evacuation of
the hospital's 80 patients to the parliament building and a nearby
resort in the capital. Patient care and treatment has been maintained
throughout the ordeal, although access to the kitchen and the
pharmaceutical supply room were destroyed by the flames. That's thanks
in part due to the immediate response by military on Kwajelein and
Tripler Army Medical Hospital in Hawaii in replacing most of the damaged
pharmaceuticals.

Pacific Islands Forum
The Secretary General of the Pacific Islands Forum, Greg Urwin, says he
wants to draw as many people as possible into continuing consultations
on the Pacific Plan. The Plan is an ambitious document, intended to set
the agenda for regional co-operation and development for the next ten
years. The region's peak NGO body - the Pacific Regional Non-Government
Organisation - has called for a two-year moratorium on implementation of
the Plan. That's because the group says the Forum has failed to consult
the vast majority of the Pacific population who live in rural areas.
