Gates Foundation Funds Malaria Research
PNG's Institute of Medical Research has received a research grant of US $2.5 million from a foundation run by computer mogul Bill Gates - the largest grant ever awarded to a PNG scientific institution. Over the next four years, researchers in Papua New Guinea and Australia will study the impact of malaria on children in Papua New Guinea. The scientists will test old drugs in new ways, to protect children from one of Melanesia's biggest health risks.
