The State of Fiji Tourism

Times: 01/08/2005
Fiji expects to soon have a higher profile in tourism markets in Japan after the appointment of one of Asia's leading marketing companies for public relations work there. The Fiji Visitors Bureau appointed Marketing Garden to sell Fiji as a tourist destination. "We are fortunate to have employed the services of Marketing Garden. Japan is an extremely important market for Fiji and we are confident that the company would make a major contribution in increasing visitor arrivals from this market," said the bureau's chief executive Viliame Gavoka. Marketing Garden chairman Michael Merner and president Hoichi Hayase had extensive experience in the travel industry, marketing some of the biggest hotel chains in Asia including Four Seasons, Le Meridian and promoting Ireland, Hawaii, Indonesia and many other countries. The company would help develop an overall marketing plan for Fiji in Japan and would also develop Japanese workshops to help sell Fiji. "It would organize media familiarization trips and would provide updates on marketing developments in that country as well as carrying out its normal public relations and marketing activities," said the bureau's senior marketing officer Josephine Seruvatu.
