Police Outreach
A series of shootings and fights in the San Francisco area has police searching for ways to stem the rising violence in an unlikely place: Tonga. The San Bruno and Burlingame police departments plan to send one officer each to the island kingdom next month in hopes they will learn ways to help keep Tongan American youths out of gangs and out of trouble.

Tourism Tidbits
The Fiji Visitors Bureau expects 200,000 Australian visitor arrivals by December of 2005 revised from the original goal of 180,000 Australian visitors.(SPTO)

Papua New Guinea has been singled out as a tourism 'hot spot' for 2005 by The Sun-Herald newspaper's Travel magazine in Australia under the heading 'What's Hot in 2005 - Get there before the in-crowd. PNG was listed among 10 exotic and adventurous countries including Sabah in Borneo, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Estonia, Laos and Tunisia. Writer Michael Gebicki describes PNG as "one of the most extraordinary places on earth." (SPTO). Prince Charles
The Prince of Wales, will visit the Fiji Islands from March 10 and 11. His visit will be centred in the Nadi area. British High Commission public relations officer Vineeta Nand said Clarence House confirmed that Prince Charles's visit to Australia, New Zealand and Fiji would begin on February 28 and end on March 11. She said Prince Charles' visit would focus on three major themes including environmental sustainability, excellence in public service and community religion.(SPTO).
Jude Law
British actor and heart throb Jude Law and his fiancé Sienna Miller are coming to Fiji soon to get married. The couple have opted for a "private and a romantic wedding destination where they can truly experience a lover's paradise." The dates of the trip are top secret, but the location is definitely Fiji.
Chinese Market
Chinese outbound tourism in 2003 generated over 23 million departures with over US$16 billion in overseas expenditure. With over 80 foreign destinations receiving Approved Destination Status (ADS) from the Chinese government this year, hundreds of thousands of Chinese travellers have flown on tourist visas for the very first time. China promises to be a major market for the Pacific Islands. (SPTO)
Vanuatu
If there's one word the 20 million Americans who tuned into the final episode of the 'Survivor' TV show earlier this month can't have missed, it's 'Vanuatu.' The decision to use Vanuatu as the backdrop for the top-rating reality-TV series is being viewed as a gift from marketing heaven for ni-Vanuatu tourism promoters. John Cvetko, marketing manager for the Vanuatu National Tourism Office said "I certainly think it'll make a difference, in terms of the world's awareness of what Vanuatu is, or the fact that Vanuatu exists" (SPTO).
