Most island nations only capture attention during disastrous events such as the Fiji coup of May 2000, which was dismally and inaccurately reported by North American mainstream press. For example, a reporter for one of our two national newspapers assigned to write about the recent Fiji elections, stated that Fiji was Polynesian, in the process losing all creditability. Fortunately Pacific Island nations are rapidly entering the Internet age in order to ensure that their version of their story gets out to the world.
