Hello. Yes, this is a little late--my apologies. With a recent death in my family, the holidays, my 'day job' as editor of Darktales Publications (which takes up all of the time available in a day to a 'normal' person; I work around this by forgoing sleep), I'm tempted to just give all these reasons as excuses and leave it at that.
But I won't. And while I also am unable to provide the normal sort of column, I have been spending my spare moments looking for material from which to give a thoughtful and thought-provoking article. I just haven't had the time. And so what I've decided to do this week is to list a half-dozen or so of the URL's which I have found that would be the fodder for such an article. I hope you check them out and think for yourself what they mean to you, what I would say about them, how I would disagree with you and how you would disagree with me. Because whether or not I provide you with my insights, that is my goal with CULTS at Suite101.com. Not to tell you what to think, but to be a catalyst for your own thoughts. I do get around to a lot of fringe type of web sites, so I hope you enjoy this. Don't hesitate to let me know if this week's column was worth your time or not. The sites: A Blood Libel Cult, an interesting bit of history which hints at cause and effect which is rarely considered: http://www.fordham.edu/halsall/source/ri... John Goldhammer's very thoughtful site which defines cults much along the lines I do: http://www.goldhammer.com/ The Cult of Tintin, Must be seen to be believed (apologies if your browser settings aren't the same; I don't have the base URL now...I'd imagine just remove everything from 'netscape' on): http://www.daimi.au.dk/~jjuhne/COT/netsc... It's the End of the World as We Know It page, a huge, rambling series of plain-looking information on everything relating to end-of-the-world beliefs. Worth reading once just to help you see things with a historical perspective: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Boule... Trepanning Page, which I think fits the bill--tell me if you agree: http://www.trepan.com/ The Militant Breastfeeding Cult (I don't know either...): http://www.itwministries.com/mbc/
