There are varying and conflicting views on the scene about the status of snooker on television today. The whole attitude to the game has received comments ranging from tawdry and boring to hours of exciting potting.
Some people think that snooker receives prime-time coverage on networks during the season as well as sufficient exposure on the internet and BBS's. Others differ in this respect. These are the people who've been in on the scene for awhile now. One such interesting article regarding this came my way, written by Mervyn Perkins. This young man who seems to have been well acquainted with the snooker world for quite some time now claims: "I'm not going to be stupid and say that all these kids playing our game hasn't improved the quality of this noble sport. But, have you noticed that it's hardly ever on the box any more." Does the sagging popularity of the sport really have lessening coverage of the game to blame? Or could it be that: "The new generation of Perrier swilling, non-smokers are far more talented. Oh yes! But the certainty with which these po-faced goons amass their huge breaks is KILLING the appeal of the game: Dead like Domestos. This is going to catch up with them one day and then they'll be sorry and it will be TOO LATE. The advertisers will pull the plug on the money and go back to supporting darts." The author goes on to suggest a solution. Can't really say if it's in the same sarcasm-laden humorous tone or if he's dead serious. Maybe you could tell me. Go To Page: 1
