Before Mark Williams came on to the scene and completely upset the ranking table by usurping the pole spot, the veteran greats of the game enjoyed comfortable standings in the tanks.
John Higgins took the world number one spot for a second season in a row. Higgins secured top spot in the Embassy world rankings when he won the Regal China International in March.
Hendry defeated Mark Williams 18-11 in the final at the Crucible. He also notched his seventh Embassy title. However, Higgins' 50,590 total was still about 9000 points too far. Grand Prix champion Stephen Lee moved from ninth to sixth position on the chart after his win. The other players remained more or less stable, slipping or gaining by a rank or two. Of course, Mark Williams stole the show after his Embassy win this year to oust John Higgins from top spot for at least the next full season. For reader reference, the old ranking table is as shown below. Stephen Hendry pegs in 3rd place whereas the rest drop or gain marginally. Brackets show previous rank and are followed by championship points. 1 John Higgins (1) 50,590 Go To Page: 1
