Cue Sports brings you the latest updates this week from Lineone, on the Embassy Snooker World Championships after coverage of the Rothman's rnad Prix.
Ferguson is vice-chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, the governing body of the game that recently unveiled a blueprint for the future of snooker. Among the plans were a reduced circuit, more global expansion and moves to differentiate tournaments, possibly by getting rid of waistcoats at some events. Speaking after his 10-7 victory over twice world quarter-finalist Willie Thorne to move to within two wins of a place in the televised stage, Ferguson revealed that most players have accepted the need for progress. "Generally they seem to agree that changes are imminent and necessary to improve the game," said 30-year-old Ferguson. "I just hope that they don't get too frustrated because it obviously can't happen overnight. "We have had a very positive reaction to our plans from a number of sponsors but there is a lot of hard work ahead. "I've grown up with the players competing here and I am always happy to listen to their ideas. That's not a relationship we have had in the past." Thorne, 46, was not the only veteran to crash out. Tony Knowles, who memorably beat Steve Davis 10-1 in the first round of the 1982 World Championship, was beaten 10-4 by Dean Reynolds. Go To Page: 1
