The Snooker Machine was developed at the University of Bristol (UK). The project was co-sponsored by the BBC. It was documented as an hour long science/technology program Q.E.D. The programme was eventurally broadcasted on BBC Channel 1 on the 16th of March 1988 in the UK.
The project was the brain-child of Professor K. Khodabandehloo at the Mechanical Department of the University of Bristol. The project is an on-going project. The information presented here is only a part of the research effort that was carried out between 1985 and 1988. The main participants in the project during this period included Prof. Khodabandehloo, Ian Rennell, Kenneth Ho, and our chief technician Terry Gorman. There were many others who helped out in the project including the undergraduate students at Bristol, IBM(UK), Automatix and the BBC. The main objectives of the project is to: to demonstrate the principles of Aritificial Intelligence in Robotics. to demonstrate the viability of using intellgient robot system in a specific domain with existing hardware and software. Constraints: use off-the-shelf robot and vision systems. For some great snapshots of the robot in action, be sure to visit the following site: Go To Page: 1
