It's Time For A Summertime Cruise© Rita Cook
Since summertime is well underway, the idea of traveling has probably crossed your mind or you may have already taken a few summer vacations.
Why not a cruise for your next vacation? This is a good time to enjoy a cruise because in many cases it is off-season. Cruise options are never-ending too; visit a place where the sun always shines or a cruise to eastern Canada might get you away from the heat if you live in an already warm climate. Nowadays cruises are so affordable that often the airline ticket to the port will cost you more than the actual cruise. Ports are usually convenient too, in the United States alone you can cruise from New Orleans, Miami, Los Angeles or New York. The first time I ever saw a cruise ship was at a port in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The huge, floating resort held up to 1500 people comfortably. The locals in Puerto Vallarta knew exactly what to do when the ship docked. The vendors appeared with more than their usual wares, the boy on the street with his pet Iguana was planning his tricks wisely with a big smile and the shopkeepers stood in doorways announcing bargains. Long or short cruises are available with destinations to just about everywhere. The Cunard Fleet offers cruises on the Queen Elizabeth 2 leaving from New York and cruising around the world in 96 days. The traveler visits Cozumel, Cartagena, Acapulco, Los Angeles, Australia, Hong Kong, Naples, Lisbon and then back to Southampton to port. Imagine, a little over three months of great food, nightly entertainment and exotic locations on a daily basis. The possibilities are practically limitless. For those who don't have the time to go cruising that long, there are the 11-day cruises, the seven-day cruises and the mini, three-day cruises. Cunard Fleet offers three to 100 day cruises depending on where you depart port. Carnival is known for quick jaunts in the Caribbean leaving from Miami or Los Angeles. The traveler can enjoy a quick trip to the Bahamas or Baja Mexico and be back in time for work the following week. Cruises mean entertainment, food and fun 24-hours a day. On one recent cruise I was on, the food was so abundant I felt obligated to eat it. There was the 24-hour pizzeria, and that was just for those times when I wasn't eating a formal breakfast, lunch or dinner. Of course, for the health conscious, cruises usually offer dishes that are low in calories, fat, sodium and cholesterol. Go To Page: 1 2
