Summertime Survival GuideSo this month I want to discuss how to get through PICNICS with Crohn's disease. Do you have family that just don't realize how hard it is. I have several examples in mind. Uhmmm boating is a good one. I would love to and have been invited to go to the river several times. Sounds great doesn't it. Problem is small boats don't have bathrooms. I really don't want to deal with racing for the shore to find a port-a-john. Sporting events is another big one. I love watching kids play ball. But I hate sitting in that tiny square bathroom where you can hardly breath.... It is just to much. Picnics is another big one. They are usually in parks where there are no bathrooms or port-a-johns again. Oh now this is a big one, now they actually want you to eat. Sure then you spend a half an hour in a smelly little box trying to crack the door for a slight breath of fresh air every couple of minutes. It is just crazy. For the spouses, children, and other loved ones who have all the wonderful ideas that we should be able to do these things. I would like to stick them in that smelly little box and lock the door for about twenty minutes and then ask them there opinion again. So what can we do??? Well, not much really. This is the price you pay to enjoy yourself somewhat like a normal human being. Try to go to places where there is atleast a house. My friends they are pretty understanding they offer there bedrooms for me to lie down if the sun gets to be to much. I am the ONE person allowed in the house to go to the bathroom if the party is outside. This works well. Recently I made my first trip to a baseball stadium. That was exciting. But I went on a day that highschool kids were playing so there was no crowd there at all. Everyone begged me to go. So I chanced it. The big problem here was I had to starve to death. It was 60 miles to the stadium, three hours there, and 60 miles back home. Well no way I was eating and then riding in a car for 60 miles. But I did it and I really enjoyed it. So this is the path we must take to have fun in the summer time. Pools is another big one. I don't know about where you live but here the pools have bathrooms.... but they are one
