All about Pain...

In this article I want to discuss Pain and pain medications.

The types of pain that we have can be many many kinds. Pain from the disease itself the most common being in the lower right quadrant of the abdomen. Often people complain of pain around there belly button. Joint pain... a big one. Pain in the Knees, lower back, hips.

How many of you have had a bone problem with this disease? I have severe knee pain. My left knee no longer works correctly. I can not go up steps with it. I have to take steps like a little child one at a time. My legs throb and throb at night after being on them alot during the day. I have pain in my right hip that I am not sure what that is.

I fell in an ice storm in 98 and fractured my left wrist... the doctors said for my age there was no way the break should have been so severe. I completely lost the use of my left hand and was in physical therapy for six months to get it back. I am left handed!!!!

This is where I discovered the wonderful world of pain medication. There are several different types of pain medications used for this disease. A few I have heard of are: Tylenol with codeine Ibuprofen Darvacett Lorcett (Vicodin) Demerol Morphine

Let's start with Tylenol with condiene. You have to be careful here. Some people do not deal with the codiene well at all. I am one of those people. So this pain medication made me sick to my stomach. That was not alot of help.

Ibuprofen, for the beginner in pain and this disease this works well better than regular tylenol and you do not need a prescription for it. After 23 years I find I am taking far to much of it and I am not happy about that but I have to be able to function. I need a stronger pain medication right now and will eventually get one. But Ibuprofen does help. I take between 400-800 mgs at a time and it helps.

Darvacett, this is a good pain medication. Doctors are usually willing to hand this out to CD patients because it is effective and non-narcotic. I have used this several time in the past and plan on using it to replace the ibuprofen I take daily as soon as I make it to my doctor again. The only bad thing about darvacett is that it makes me sleepy and I have a real problem with having to be asleep to be out of pain. I want to be out of pain and be
