Personal Stories from people with Crohn's Disease

I am 26 yrs old..married in October 1997 to a wonderful guy. I was diagnosed with Crohn's in February of '98 after three months of internal examines (all the doctors thought I was pregnant or had stomach cancer), x-rays, cat scans, and tons of blood tests. I was put on asacol the first month but I was on a major downward spiral and the vomiting was really out of control. My doctor gave me a choice after I couldn't eat for 5 days and had lost a total of 25 pounds ... prednisone or a hospital stay. I chose the pred (which I just recently was able to wean off of). I'm still learning what I can and cannot eat. Soda seems to really mess with my stomach. I've been trying to find information on pregnant women with Crohn's but not much research has been done. Luckily, I haven't needed surgery, but the pain seems pretty constant and I'm always aware of where the nearest bathroom is. (no more road trips for vacations) Right now I'm just trying to live in the moment and! enjoy the good days )

---------------------------------------------------------------- NEXT STORY: I WAS DIAGNOSED NOVEMBER "1996". I HAVE HAD CROHN'S DISEASE FOR 3 YEARS NOW. I WON'T GO INTO ALL THE OTHER DETAILS. I WILL START FROM THE LAST TIME I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL. I HAD GOTTEN REALLY SICK ON JUNE 24, 1998 SO I CALLED MY DOCTOR TO SEE WHAT HE WANTED ME TO DO. I WAS CRAMPED UP, HAD NOT HAD A BOWEL MOVEMENT THE DAY BEFORE, I WAS VOMITING LIKE YOU WOULDN'T BELIEVE. SO HE SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE ANOTHER OBSTRUCTION. SO I DROVE MYSELF TO THE HOSPITAL, BECAUSE MY 3 YEAR OLD WAS FAST ASLEEP, SO I ASKED MY HUSBAND IF HE WOULD STAY WITH HIM. I ARRIVED AT THE EMERGENCY ROOM. THEY HAD TAKEN MY NAME AND WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME. THEN THEY TOOK MY TEMPERATURE AND BLOOD PRESSURE. THEN THEY HAD TAKEN ME IN A ROOM AND TOLD ME TO GET IN A GOWN. THEN THE NURSE CAME IN AND SAID WE ARE GOING TO GET AN IV PUT IN AND WE ARE ALSO GOING TO PUT IN AN NG TUBE, YOU CAN IMAGINE WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH MY HEAD. I DON'T LIKE THEM THINGS AT ALL. ALL THREE TIMES I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL I HAD ONE. I WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FROM JUNE 24TH THROUGH JUNE 30TH. THE 29TH MY DOCTOR HAD TALKED TO ME
