Learn to Read Crochet Patterns - Part 3

To work a double crochet, you yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch or space indicated, yarn over again and pull up a loop. (You should have three loops on your hook.) Yarn over again and draw through two of the loops on the hook. (You should have two loops on your hook.) Yarn over again and draw through the last two of the loops on the hook. Work one double crochet stitch in each remaining chain. Now work 3 chains and turn the project.

To turn the piece, you flip it over so you are working from the opposite end. In other words, keep the top edge of the work in the same position and switch the left end with the right end.

For Row 2, you work one double crochet stitch into the top of each double crochet stitch on the previous row. Then make three chains and turn the piece again. For the rest of the project you repeat Row 2 until your coaster is square.

The following pages contain video illustrations of the chain and double crochet stitches and may prove helpful during this project.
