Where can I sell and how much do I charge for my crafts?Fairs & Festivals If you enjoy setting up a booth to personally sell your crafts look for fairs in your area. For the crafter who likes to travel, festivals are great. The county in which I live has an annual “Black Gold Festival”. Other counties in Kentucky offer similar type festivals at which crafters can reserve a booth for a fee. The foot traffic is tremendous and you can make a lot of friends. Festival specific items may offer a great source of income. For the Black Gold Festival items include carvings from chunks of coal, hence the name Black Gold. The Web The World Wide Web offers crafters more options than one would have ever imagined. If the previously mentioned options are not for you but you have knowledge about the Internet you may like to build a website through which to sell your merchandise. There are many websites that offer free pages but the best route to take if you are seriously considering this as a business would be to purchase a domain name and build a website. My husband Tim recently wrote an E-book about building and promoting websites. Tim has been building and promoting websites for others for the past 3 years. You can download a chapter of the book for free at: http://www.webpageplanner.com Selling Price You can use various formulas to arrive at a selling price. (1) Materials plus labor (2) Materials multiplied two or three times depending on the amount of time it takes to make each item. Customize a formula that suites your particular craft by incorporating the price of your materials, labor, shipping, etc. To help you remember your options, use the following acronym: C = Consignment R = Retail A = Auction F = Festivals T = The Web S = Selling Price Be sure you get everything in writing to ensure your protection. Contracts are essential in any business transaction.
