Basic Crochet Instructions for a Beginner Crochet Block: http://www.learntocrochet.com/instructio...

If you, as an experienced crocheter, have any ideas that may help teach a child to crochet please feel free to begin a discussion on the subject. One helpful hint is to take a simple crochet pattern and re-write the instructions without the abbreviations, in plain English so to speak. This way the child will be able to concentrate on the stitches and not have to worry about what the abbreviations stand for. If the child is interested enough to make the same project again, ask that they compare the re-written pattern with the original pattern in order to familiarize themselves with the language of crochet.

As for how to read a pattern, you can refer to the following page: http://www.crochetnmore.com/123readapatt... If you have instructions you do not understand and they aren't explained on that page drop me a line ( email: lisacro@kih.net ) and I'll explain them for you.

Be a mentor. Teach our younger generation to crochet or do any other type of craft in hopes of keeping their hands busy. You've heard the old saying, "Idle hands are the devil's workshop".
