Timeless Easter Treasures

© Lisa A. Hamblin

Spring is here and Easter is practically upon us. This brings back childhood memories galore. I can remember getting a new outfit each year and the many Easter egg hunts with family and friends. One Easter was too cold to hide eggs outside so my Mother let us hide them in the house. Yes, the real boiled eggs not the little fake plastic ones. The weeks after brought a strange rotting aroma through our house. Then we found the culprit. You guessed it, an egg that wasn’t found during the original hunt made its presence known in a rude way. From then on there was an official egg count before and after each egg hunt and sometimes a list was made of each egg’s location. It’s mainly because of that little incident that we only hide the little fake plastic eggs.

So Spring brings us to the task at hand. It’s time to get those Easter baskets ready and decide on what we want to fill them with. Now for the big decision! Do we purchase the standard store-bought baskets, which consist of a bit of grass amid a few jellybeans, marshmallow chicks and chocolate bunnies? Or are we willing to take the time to make a timeless treasure? There are many talented crochet designers online who are willing to share their work with you. The following are free Easter related patterns that I’ve encountered. I hope this helps you choose patterns that are right for you.

On a spiritual note, my mother-in-law made cookies during an Easter party for the children in our church one year. The cookies are made while an adult tells the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection. The kids loved the story and the fact that they were allowed to participate in making the cookies was a big bonus. I found the recipe online and want to invite you to make these cookies with your children, grandchildren or the children in your church to help them understand the true meaning of the Easter holiday.

Couldn't get the Easter story cookie recipe to work, but I did enjoy some of the other links and the first basket pattern. I'll be back to check out the other links. ...
