I received another technology press release recently. Most of the time I pass them by - they're for a new keyboard or a better way to control my finances (there is no way). But this one ... this one caught my eye.
A new concept in genre fiction is making its debut. HandHeldCrime, the newest addition to the computer-age pulps, brings handheld computer users a selection from the best crime fiction on the Web today. In partnership with a number of established Web publications, HandHeldCrime presents short fiction formatted especially for handhelds, delivered free of charge by e-mail through AvantGo, or by download from the home page. As more and more users are discovering, handheld computers (including Palm, Visor, Psion, and Windows CE or PocketPC devices) are an ideal platform for pleasure reading. They are as easy to hold as a paperback book, their screens are designed to display a newspaper-size column of text, and -- unlike a laptop or desktop -- the user can relax while reading from a handheld. Further, since text documents require very little memory, users can install a virtual bookshelf which they can then read at their leisure. By delivering stories directly to users, HandHeldCrime realizes the full reading potential of this technology. In addition to fiction, the first issue features an introduction by mystery author and Private Eye Writers of America founder Robert J. Randisi, exclusive reviews of current novels in the genre, and a guide to crime fiction on the Internet. Interested users can download the first issue and sign up for future issues at the Web site. HandHeldCrime is published, maintained, and edited by Web designer Jamey Dumas and research attorney Victoria Esposito-Shea. See HandHeldCrime: Short Mystery Fiction for Handheld Computer Users for more informtaion. Go To Page: 1
