Here are the top stories, in winning order, submitted for the June Crime 55 contest:

DEAD IN A PHONE BOOTH
by Rob M.

"We raised him well on this farm," said the father, grief-stricken.

"Strong boy," replied the policeman, "but nobody could've survived that overdose."

"Drugs -- is that what caused the fantasies? Saving the world, and whatnot?"

"Partly, I suppose. But the psychiatrist mentioned Dissociative Identity Disorder... something about multiple personalities."

"Oh, poor Clark!" sobbed Mrs. Kent.

SOMETIMES IT'S OKAY
by Greg Beatty

"Freeze!"

"Son, put the gun down."

"But the book says, if a criminal doesn't respond to a verbal command--"

"I'm telling you, sometimes it's okay to bend the rules."

Reluctantly, the rookie holstered his gun.

"Good," his partner said. "Now, it is illegal, and they are, technically criminals, here's how we deal with jumpers..."

ONE SIN
by Rob M.

Maybe telling someone would help.

He knew it'd been wrong, the sex. He hadn't entirely enjoyed it, but it was the sinning that bothered him most. Just the thought of it conjured up vivid, frightening imagery of The Crucifixion.

Yes, maybe confessing would help.

But he'd obviously have to go to someone besides Father McManus.

HE WANTS TO ROB A BANK?
by Grady Hopkins

The bank teller stared at the note, unable to decipher the language. She said, "Habla English?" The Hispanic male pointed at the note, rubbed his thumb and index finger together, keeping one hand in his pocket. Confused the teller; called a Hispanic security guard to translate. The patron ran for the door to avoid arrest.

NO ELECTRIC CHAIR FOR ME
by Mahendra

I hate Tanya. Her face makes me throw up. TRICKY water I have bought is lethal. She will drink it because I want her to. I won't see the last grimace on her face because she and I share the same body. The dumb jury will never ever find out. No electric chair for me.
