In the Fall of 2003, there are many new television programs with a criminal justice bent premiering on network TV. CBS has three new crime shows, discussed in a previous article, but NBC will be introducing "Las Vegas" and "The Lyon's Den" and ABC has added "10-8", "Threat Matrix," and "Karen Sisco" to its fall schedule.
On Mondays this Fall, NBC has schedule its new program "Las Vegas" to run after "Fear Factor." "Las Vegas" focuses on a top-notch surveillance company run by a former CIA agent, Big Ed Deline (James Caan). Big Ed's resources include his employee Danny McCoy (Josh Duhamel), an ex-Marine and Vegas party boy; a casino host, Jane (Vanessa Marcil); his head valet (James Lesure); and a high class escort (Nikki Cox). What "Las Vegas" has going for it is James Caan, but the description of the show sounds flashy with not a lot of substance much like Vegas itself. NBC's almost sure thing for the Fall is Rob Lowe's new vehicle "The Lyon's Den." The show begins with the questionable death of a partner in the elite law firm Lyon, LaCrosse, and Levine. Jack Turner (Rob Lowe) is appointed to replace the dead partner. As Jack has been working at the firm's inner city law clinic he takes the job to keep the clinic alive. Upon taking the position, Jack is confronted with a working environment where everyone seems to have ulterior motives, and where he may be in danger of meeting the fate of his predecessor. With a plot out of a John Grisham novel and a strong cast including Kyle Chandler ("Early Edition"), Elizabeth Mitchell (Frequency), Frances Fisher (Unforgiven), and David Krumholtz (10 Things I Hate About You), this show may be NBC's best candidate this season for a continued run. ABC's "10-8" is about a boy from Brooklyn who is taken to California by his policeman brother to keep him from entering a life of crime. The boy, Rico, (Danny Nucci, Titanic) grows up to graduate from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Academy with his street smarts to back up his academy training. The ABC preview of this show indicates that it will both focus on policework in L.A. and the cultural conflict between Rico and his fellow policemen, particularly his training officer, a tough veteran cop played by Ernie Hudson (Ghostbusters). "10-8" is slotted to premiere on September 28 and will run on Sundays prior to "Alias". Go To Page: 1 2
