India walks out from Sahara Cup

Sahara Cup has gained some popularity in the cricketing arena just like Sharjah cup where two arch-rivals meet at a neutral venue. The interesting matches have even forced the Canadian citizens to come and watch the matches. But sadly Indian cricket board once again refused to play against Pakistan due to which this tournament is now cancelled.

Sports are message of peace and players are ambassadors of peace. Many difference among the countries are resolved through sports, although not directly yet indirectly. Obviously, when players visit each other countries or have meetings, then the ice melts between the countries and there is a chance of beginning of a new ear in the relations of two countries.

Indian provided a lame excuse that India will not going to play against Pakistan because of the tensions in Kashmir. If it is so, then why Indian refused to play only cricket why not all other sports like hockey, wrestling and kabbadi. Taking an in-depth look, I came to conclusion that Indian weak squad just simply can not compete the powerful Pakistani squad.

India Pakistan matches are more than just cricket matches for Pakistani and Indian people. As India lost the matches repeatedly from Pakistan, there was great anger against Indian squad. To protect their team from this anger, Indian cricket board has decided not to play or at least avoid as much matches against Pakistan as much possible.

Pakistan has played 47 test matches against India, winning 9 of them and losing 5. Thirty three matches resulted in draw. Also, in the 85 ODIs Pakistan has won 52 ODIs while India manage to win only 29, 4 matches were draw.

These statistics clearly gives the reason that why Indian sports ministry is reluctant to play matches against Pakistan even in neutral venues.

There is another very intresting situation now, Indian team is scheduled to visit Pakistan in 2000-01 season. There is a test and one day series against Pakistan in this tour. This tour is in return to the tour which Pakistani team paid to India in 1999 under captaincy of the great Wasim Akram.

Indian board or government officials are not doing anything great for cricket as well as the relations between the two countries. We can just hope that after the cancellation of Sahara cup, Indian team will visit Pakistan and we will going to see a truly great series which is not only good for the game of cricket but also for the tense relations between the two countries.
