Colonial Stadium, Melbourne was the venue of the indoor matches series played between Australia and South Africa, arguably the best two cricketing teams of world.
Second match was somewhat quite similar to the World Cup 99, semi-final. South Africa scored 226 and Australia seemed to be getting there quite easily but then Klusener spell changed the whole course of the game. Andrew Hall bowled a brilliant spell in the death and was one of the main reasons of the result of the match. In the last over, Australia needed 14 to win but they managed to score 13 runs, courtesy Shane Warne and Pollock's poor bowling performance. Steve Waugh and Michale Beaven scored centuires in the first match and posted a score of 296 which was simply too much for South Africa. The third match was an interesting match. South Africa scored only 207 runs and then they defended like a true champion team. In fact, this series is a continuation of the 3 match series between Australia and South Africa, which was played in South Africa earlier this year. South Africa won that series by 2-1 and with 1-1 in this series, South Africa seems to have taken revenge of the two World Cup losses. There was nothing special about indoor cricket except that the ground was a bit damp, Shane Warne could not get the drift because of absence of air, there was no swing due to the same reason. The stadium was really a great one. No ball touched its roof. Go To Page: 1 2 |
