Wasim Akram Completes 400 ODI Wickets

World Cup 1992 final, Melbourne Australia, English team seems to be in good position to chase Pakistani target but Wasim Akram took two wickets of Lamb and Lewis on two consecutive balls and consequently Pakistan won the final. He was the man of the match in World Cup 92, final. A dream of every player to become man of the match in the World Cup Final.

Now in the United & Carlton Series Wasim against Australia completed his 400 ODI wickets. The first bowler ever to take 400 wickets in the history of ODIs. Damien Matryn was his 400th victim. Wasim now has 405 wickets in 288 matches (last updated on 25th of January 2000) and has 383 wickets in 91 test matches. This means that he has alone captured something like 800 wickets since his debut for Pakistan.

Wasim Akram is said to be one of the special students of Imran Khan. Imran Khan is one of the greatest all rounder and captain that world has even seen. It was due to his brilliant captaincy that Pakistan managed to win the World Cup in 1992. Now, Wasim Akram has the same approach and appearance and he very nearly took Pakistan to the World Cup victory in England last year.

Akram has set his sights on narrowing the gap behind Kapil Dev in Test wickets, though time is running out for Pakistan's captain. Akram, a diabetic at the age of 32, still needs 51 wickets to catch Kapil Dev's 434, and he lies fifth behind Dev, Richard Hadlee, Courtney Walsh and Ian Botham. Out of these four, only Courtney Walsh is playing at the moment and does not seem to be in such great touch as the Pakistani captain is.

Apart from bowling, Wasim is also quite a useful batsman. His batting has really flourished since he has become captain of Pakistani side. He performed very well in the World Cup 99 and one can't forget his innings in the World Cup 92 when he smashed the ball to all the corners of MCG.

Wasim is approaching 3000 runs in ODIs. He has scored 2970 runs at an average of 15.71. He has scored 6 fifties and 86 is his highest. His performance is much better in test cricket as he has scored a double century against Zimbabwe at Shiekhupura. Wasim and Saqlain in an unbelievable partnership saved Pakistan from a humiliating defeat against Zimbabwe.

Wasim has scored 2424 runs in 130 test innings at an average of 21.26 with one double century, a hundred and fife fifties which is certainly a very good record for a bowling all-rounder.
