In Search of Elephants - An African Safari Part 2Another wonderful lunch and a little relaxing and shopping prepared the group for a great afternoon. The vans didn't make it out of the camp gate before Olive Baboons blocked the way. The baboons were in the trees and on the ground scavenging through the garbage for that perfect orange peel. Finally, we made our way through and drove awhile before we came upon a pride of lions . One male, a female, and three cubs rested atop a gold wispy hillside. The male growled and snarled at us as we came closer with our cameras. Our driver got so close you could see the flies buzzing and landing on the resting cats. A lion's eyes are an intense yellow that size you up very quickly. It was late afternoon and the lions were enjoying just being cats-hanging out soaking up the sunshine. Before heading back to camp we spotted herds of Cape Buffalo. These animals are grumpy, mean, and ugly. The last stop allowed us to get out and visit a tame warthog named Blow. He was the model for Pumba in Disney's The Lion King. A black rhino rescued from poachers and protected by his personal guard also lives on the premises. You can pet him if you dare. Sweetwaters Tented Camp gave the group a special look at African wildlife, but now, it's time to pack up and move on to the next camp. In Search of Elephants - an African Safari Part 3 will appear next month.
