Spring has Sprung

Spring has sprung; at least that’s what the calendar says. We did “Spring Ahead” with the time change for day light savings. Here in the north-east, spring is still an April Fools joke. So, lets lift our spirits by decorating our indoor environment, since the outdoor one won’t cooperate.

There are so many crafty ways to get a jump on spring from celebrating spring holidays, enjoying indoor gardens or simply bringing out the pastels and watercolors for some spring picture fun.

Passover begins April 7th at sundown. I found a wonderful site offering a history of Passover for you to share with your young ones and some music to enjoy as well. Passover Site.

Kids Domain offers a variety of craft ideas associated with setting the Passover table. You can find ideas for the Seder plate, place mats and an Afikomen bag – and you can learn just what these things are!

Easter is celebrated April 15th. There are a number of crafts relating to the religious and the connected-to-the-Christian faith, but not so religious at Kids Domain and Crafts for Kids at About.com.

For example, did you know where the Easter Bunny came from and how it has been associated with the Christian Easter Holiday? Check this out

Kids love to hop like bunnies. Give them some ears! Using either poster board or craft foam, make a band to fit around their head. Cut large bunny ears from white and pink foam (pink for the inside of the ear should be slightly smaller than the white). Secure the ears to the back of the head band, and there you have it, your own Easter Bunny!

Easter eggs, another symbol of new life, were given as gifts like a valentine years ago. Different colors have different meanings and celebrate the sun light and new birth of spring. This site will offer more information to share with you kids. They also offer some fun Easter egg games.

Of course, decorating eggs is always a favorite activity, but what do you do with them once they’re colored? We like to display our favorite (just before we eat it) in an egg holder.

A quick and easy egg holder is made with some craft foam cut into strips approximately 1.5” wide and just long enough to go around the bottom of your eggs. Then the foam can be decorated with other foam cut outs of flowers, a picket fence, animals, etc.

This cone shaped bunny would make a cute egg holder and comes with a very sweet jelly bean poem.
