St. Patrick's Day Fun
As the saying goes, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day! What's ironic is St. Patrick wasn't. He was born in either Roman Britain or southern Scotland, kidnapped by pirates and sold into slavery in Ireland. The story of his faith and the survival skills of a child is truly and interesting one. I viewed several sites relating to the history of the celebration. This one was the most kid friendly as far as the content discussed. http://www.nando.net/toys/stpaddy/stpadd... It's fun to be able to discuss the story behind the holiday while you're planning that party or decorating for the season. Decorating for any holiday makes the windows bright and the home cheery. Decorating for St. Patrick's Day is quite simple - just stock up on that green construction paper! We have a large front window. Our primary decoration is a huge rainbow with a pot of gold at the end. Cut your construction paper length wise into 3 inch strips and secure the strips end to end with tape. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet (unless of course you have indigo). These will be taped to your window at an angle dipping into your pot. Tape 2 pieces of black construction paper together and cut into a cauldron shape. If you want the pot to look like a pot from the inside too, you will need to make 2. Using yellow, cut a number of circles (gold pieces). Arrange the pot and gold pieces on your window so the gold mounds over the top of the pot. Tape your rainbow so it looks like it is flowing into the pot. Cover the first pot with the second to get the same effect inside as out. To make life easier, leave your rainbow straight - it ends up looking like the edge of the rainbow and it's a lot easier to manage!
Decorate other windows, cabinet doors and any other surface you can find with shamrocks. Making shamrocks is easy, all you need is heart. Or should I say a heart shape. Trace 3 heart shapes with the 3 points toward the center, draw in a stem and there you have it - a perfect shamrock.! Make the shamrock shapes from white paper, have the kids paint them green, glue on some gold sparkles then glue to a paper plate with the center cut out and you have a wonderful wreath! Are you entertaining? Here is a great dip bowl you and the clan can make - http://www.kidsdomain.com/craft/stpathat... Go To Page: 1 2
